A company like Ashok Leyland is often associated with trucks, heavy loaders and defence vehicles. The school bus in which we travelled, the huge buses we see are all manufactured by this automobile giant. Founded in the year 1948, Ashok Leyland is the 2nd largest commercial vehicle manufacturer in India. At the global level, it is the 4th largest manufacturer of buses and 12th largest manufacturer of trucks.

In the year 2012, the Indian manufacturer expanded its CV from heavy vehicles to passenger vehicles when it introduced its first passenger car. The company through the introduction of – Ashok Leyland Stile entered a challenging and competitive segment of minivans. It is one and the only passenger vehicle that has been introduced by the Indian manufacturer until now.

Ashok Leyland had originally announced two different engine types (CNG and diesel), Stile was manufactured only with diesel engines. Stile had three variants: LE, LS and LX. All three variants had same engine displacement, bhp and specifications except for seating capacity.

The production of this car model has been discontinued. However, a new Ashok Leyland Stile used to cost between INR 8 to 9.5 Lakh. If you buy a used Ashok Leyland Stile car, you can get the minivan for a price between INR 4-7 Lakh based upon the variant and condition. Price may differ due to the GST effect which has brought about an overall change in the price of Ashok Leyland car models, most importantly the used ones whose evaluation has increased.

Recently, Ashok Leyland’s Pantnagar manufacturing facility received the 2016 Deming Prize which is a prestigious award in terms of vehicle production. Ashok Leyland is the only outsider who has won a Deming Prize except for Japan.

Talking about the popular models introduced by Ashok Leyland, there is not much to discuss as Ashok Leyland Stile is the only model which is available in the market. The model has not done pretty well in the Indian market, and thus the manufacturer has discontinued to the model.
